Nxs Internet plants oak trees for reducing the CO2-redundancy
Nxs Internet BV, one of the most important service providers on the Dutch hosting market, shall plant the first oak trees in her plot of land in the Internet forest on the 12th of December. With this Nxs Internet would like to make an example for the rest of the hosting market, and motivate the rest of the branch of industry to take responsibility for the CO2-redundancy, which is partly due to the internet activities.
The parcel in Winterswijk, part of the Internet forest which will exist for 99 years, is a combined initiative of Nxs Internet and Cleanbits, an organization who will show willingness of using durable sources in the ICT-branch. The newly build forest shall have approximately 2200 oak trees, with an estimated CO2-documentation over the complete period of 250 tons CO2. Despite that this is a step in the good direction to CO2 neutral the datacenter, the company realizes that there are more measurements needed. That is why Nxs Internet since the opening of the datacenter only green electricity uses and uses smart cool techniques to reduce the use of electricity.
Siemon van den Berg, associate founder and director of Nxs Internet: “on the 12th of December we shall begin with a symbolic start for the construction of the new forest, which will be finished next year. With this planting we would like to make a statement. Our branch is responsible for a significant part of the CO2 redundancy and everybody should take their responsibility. Unfortunately the problem will not disappear by planting a forest, but it is a compensation and it says that “green” measurements should have high priorities.
