FTP
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It’s an agreement to transfer files from one computer to another.
You can transfer (upload) files via FTP from your own computer to our servers, where you have rented space with your hosting package.
You can transfer files with different programmes. These are sometimes shareware (software you can use temporarily), or whole programs (often paid), or freeware (free programs)
You can find manuals on the following pages to use some known FTP programs:
Whichever programme you use, the data will always be the same on the server.
The home directory consists of:
- /cgi-bin Where you can put your cgi-scripts in.
- /html You can find map(s) where your website is uploading in.
- /logs Access and error logs of your account are kept track of.
As you will see you can browse as often as you want on the server (Windows and Linux). As a consequence, you will be able to go from directory to directory by clicking twice on the folders you want to open. If you do this with /html, you will find the file site1 of de map or the file yourdomain.nl The files that you put in this folder can be asked for via the worldwide web (www.yourdomain.nl). The file that you name index.html or index.php will be put first if some visits your site. Attention: this file should consist of small letters!
Next you will be able to open the local browser via the programme of your choice and see the files on your own computer that you want to upload. To actually transfer the files you can, depending on the programme, drag the files or copy/paste them.
