DNS

DNS stands for Domain Name System, or as we like to call it, name server. Actually, it is a database with names and it searches an IP-address for each domain name.

The name server consists of zone files. These are files that contain information about the configuration of a domain.

In this zone file, for instance, it says how domain mail is being configured.

On our customer administration system you can organize these zone files yourself and edit the records.

An A record links names to IP addresses.

A CNAME links names to other names (aliases).

A MX (Mail exchange) record delegates the mail server(s).

A SOA (State of Authority) record determines who is authorized for a particular zone.

A PTR record links names to IP addresses. This is the twin for A record.

TTL stands for Time To Live and reflects how many times the name server is refreshed.
