Solvec Internet Solutions (www.solvec.nl) is a company that mainly hosts and develops customized software, among other things web applications and websites."We first used Active Server Pages, so that a Windows platform was an obvious choice. In the mean time we have specialised in the Microsoft .NET and Java environment, but we never changed our Windows servers choice," Says Sander Gerz. About other platforms he says: "We administer the, in the mean time 4 real and 3 virtual, servers ourselves and you might then better focus on one operating system. We have some experience in the administration of Unix and Linux but the maintenance of multiple platforms has been time-consuming. We use two servers for hosting websites for customers and for ourselves."
Solvec and Nxs Internet
About the first contact with Nxs Internet Sander Gerz says:"We originally started with a hosting provider in Rotterdam but this company was taken over by another company so that the server (only one at the time) removed to Eindhoven. The distance and the fact that we could only see our server during office hours made it clear that we had to look for another location. A simple search on the internet in 2004 lead us to Nxs Internet. They provided us with good information and they didn’t refuse our request to have a look on location. Nxs Internet made a professional impression and the technical quality above marketing talk was a mere fact. We did not, looking at our impressions, compared more with other companies and have not regretted it up to this day."
Experiences of Solvec with Nxs Internet
"The speed that Nxs operates with is a big advantage," says Sander Gerz about the experiences with Nxs."Our former experiences might be a bit biased. Furthermore, it is important for us to have a partner that you can trust in the long term. We still keep an eye on the web hosting market, and companies keep popping up to offer location, hosting and other services at minimum prices, but as customer you need to see through that. We have the impression that companies with those offers have little space for investments in infrastructure, procedures and communication. There are also companies that are the other way around, where you get the impression that especially pay for the marketing, sales and board. About this matter we feel that Nxs Internet has the proper priorities."
Buienradar.nl
One of Solvec’s customers is Buienradar.nl. About Buienradar Sander says:"One of our customers, who is also responsible for www.beurs.nl, has launched a new website in the beginning of summer: www.buienradar.nl. This website made real-time rain information dealers shiver. This information is really valuable and that was the reason for offering it by a subscription system. But www.buienradar.nl can be consulted by anyone. And so we experienced! The number of visitors boomed and so did the network traffic. August was a peak, for rain as for network traffic. More than 7 terabyte was used that month. Despite the fact that we thought to have bought enough network traffic we were not being realistic. That’s why we appreciate the flexibility of Nxs towards the purchase of this network traffic. Costs could have been way higher for us and for our customers (we don’t have a margin for network traffic). The web server, that recently has its foreign version (www.meteox.com), is now using a flatfee 100Mbit connection. We never have to worry about possible additional collections again."
Finally Sander declares:"Our view is that the added value of Solvec is in its knowledge and skills on the Microsoft platform. That means that we have to make sure that business outside this platform is in good hands. And it is with Nxs."
